>>41731014The reason for all this is becuase of a combo system. When your Pokemon is selected, you can press the A button to do your default move, and the D-pad directions for your Specials. You can string a maximum combo of 6 moves. The longer a combo, the longer it'll take for your Pokemon to finally attack, but longer combos are more worth it due to the fact the power will multiply with each attack.
After moving, the Pokemon will be in cool-down for a set down before being able to move again.
The only real limitation is that Status and buff moves can only be used once at the beginning of a combo (50% chance of working), end of a combo (75% chance of working), or just by itself (100% chance of working).
The Speed stat effects how long a cooldown lasts and how fast a combo can be pulled off.
Spamming a Special more than twice will make it stale and reduce its power to if it was Default. Multi-hit moves will go stale with just 1 use. A Default can't go stale at all, and it's more for stringing moves easier. Defaults don't increase in power the longer a combo, but it can contribute to the power of a later Special
Priority moves won't add to the combo charge time at all (For example, if you use Quick Attack twice in a 6-move combo, it'll charge as long as a 4-move combo. It won't decrease the combo charge if it's stale, however.) Attacks like Bullet Seed will be like 3-5 tiny hits in one attack.
This battle system will be more fast-paced, better flowing, strategically broad, and more fun to watch.
One last Quality of Life change is that Pokemon can't forget moves at all. They'll have a big move-bank that can be used to swap moves when out of battle.
