So what exactly is "Poison" about this thing? It only seems to be Poison because they didn't want to use either of the other two "villain" types (Ghost and Dark).

It's purple. It's probably related to energy being harmful/dangerous to nature, I like the theory that it's based on fossil fuels which explain the dragon skeleton

The energy it produces is radioactive/nuclear in nature, hence the chunks coming off of it in wishing stars having the unlimited number attempts to make pokemom grow and be a potential actual energy source.

Radiation ain't healthy to be arround though, so its comparable to a poison type.

Its whole thing is "Galar particles" which is just another word for radiation. i.e. radiation is what causes all the pokemon to get super big and it feeds on that radiation.

Purple just feels "right" as the color for Poison. It's like how Water's color tends to be blue, Grass' is green, and Fire's is shades of red, orange, and yellow.
