Depends on what console you have if you're talking about playing a physical copy. If you're new to emulating gba emulation is easy and you can access Fire red, Emerald, and Crystal all on an app that basically any computer can handle.

Either go with FRLG or BW as your first games, as the former is a remake of the 1st gen and the latter is a soft reboot that gives you only new Pokémon until you beat the league. I'd still say BW because it has the Special and Physical split, which is important going forwards.

Yellow. It’s the improved version of the first games so there’s no reason not to start with it. Just make sure you play the later games in release order so you can naturally ease into the changes and additions instead of jumping back and forth.
