I can just imagine all the Dark type specialists as kids, pushing through their first Dark type partner Pokemon's outer walls and finding the loyal, loving partner beneath the "evil" and mean exterior.

True but isn't Piers supposed to be a singer? I don't have the games so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that one. I feel like the theme of Obstagoon clearly being based on glam rock (KISS specifically) actually works quite well as Piers' ace.

Yes, he's An underground punk rockstar. To the point that he starts doing a public concert to distract the Bad guys in one of the Final acts of the story. People rush towards him because "holy shit, Piers is here and doing a public concert!" Which allows you to enter the big bad's Tower.

It is probably because Dark is a commonly used type for Elite Four members and villainous teams. Also, prior to Gen VI, Dark was a very good typing defensively and might have been too OP for gyms.

It is usually because Dark is associated with punkish characters like Sidney, Karin, or Piers, or with people that deal with bad situations like Nanu who saw a woman getting gulped alive or Grimsley with his notorious bad luck.

The actual evil characters in this universe are usually multi type characters that may use a few Dark-types, such as villainous team leaders. Actually, a few of the Team Flare scientists use only Dark-type Pokemon.

No, the point of Piers was to have a realistic sounding and punkish name that also functioned as a translation of his Japanese name. Most characters in the Japanese versions are named after plants. Piers' Japanese name is Nezu, another name for the temple juniper. Piers himself is named after the genus it comes from, Juniperus. They couldn't name him Juniper because it is already used for two other characters.

Yeah, Gen 3's Elite Four are all extremely forgettable so I understand. Sidney is also the first of his group and probably the one you are most likely to beat and not struggle against.

The whole idea is that Yell are the thorns to/in Rose’s side. There is even a throw away line that confirms this. Imagine seeing all the spike imagery.
