>>41753449The thing is, we don't know if they COULD have done that. Gamefreak specifically told the GI guy in his interview there that Pokemon games, since they're published by Nintendo, have their budgets set by them.
And you can bet your ass that Nintendo would rather see how little money is needed than "go all out because some anons on 4chan want a post-game cave that casuals might ignore anyway", because that is how they work. They are after all the same company that bragged about how outsourcing so much of BOTW allowed them to make it's profit line '2 million units sold' even though its the most expensive game they ever made.
In other words, the guys with the money and the deadlines -like- to spend as little as possible, and we don't know how much clout Gamefreak has to say "no, we want two years more", and frankly we don't even know if Gamefreak WANTS more time, since we know they made two games (Town and Giga Wrecker) plus USUM plus LGPE plus SwSh at the same time,so I don't think they are being overworked, maybe they are satisfied with the current pipeline.
