Gen 8 has more new Pokemon than gen 6, and the same amount as SM (so not counting Blacephalon/Stakataka/Poipole/Naganadel/Zeraora/Meltan/Melmetal which were added later).

Plus the dex feels a lot bigger than gen 7 when you consider the fact that we only have 3 legendaries instead of a third of the dex being legendaries/mythicals/UBs that you barely get to see.

I mean the quality of the new pokemon is definitely great, the only truly awful new pokemon is probably Greedent especially because it wastes Skwovet's nice design. The legendaries were actually good this gen as opposed to the trash bloat we got with the tapus and ultra shits.

As for quantity? Nope, if this dex cut bullshit is happening then they need to start adding 100+ pokemon every new game to make up for it.

Not really. If you're just going by designs alone I would posit that Gen 7 had far more going for it in that regard, by comparison there's fewer interesting designs in Gen 8.

Overall the designs are a major selling point of the game, but also hardly the meat of it; Gen 8 still fails as a game and is therefore not at all palatable to me.

Quantity leads to quality, especially on a subjective thing like art since different people will like different things so the more you have the more likely someone is to find something quality and in general designs have been relatively consistent until Tiny Turner Adventures where most of them look like fine western cartoon monsters but not at all like Pokémon.

Jhoto is the second game/gen in the Pokemon franchise so it makes sense that most is fillermon because it's more of a sequel to the first games.
Galar is the 8th gen in the series and the gens before it (gen 6 and 7) had mostly better Pokemon with roughly the same numbers.
