I blame fucking XY for this, they started adding those damn "techno" battle themes in the mainline games.

Honestly when you first see Zacian/Zamazenta in their normal un-crowned forms their theme is (imo) pretty good, if maybe a bit repetitive, but the theme for their actual fight in the postgame kinda sucks.

Nah, it has its place. Droning orchestral themes are honestly getting played out to me from overuse, and snappy "videogame-y" midi tracks both fit the Pokemon's feel better and separate itself from the crowd with poppy tracks like Gladion's theme and Poni Canyon. S/S just sounds like shit. It's just that S/S sounds like shit and leans too heavily on EDM shit when there should be a wide swath of rock, metal, and folk songs to balance it out because the UK has a diverse sound history. I don't understand how they could get Alola's musical feel and mood so right and then fuck up the very next game.

While the music is a focus, what do you think of the overall soundtrack, /vp/? Personally, I find the music to be totally nonsensical and messy and I have my volume down 90% of the time when playing the game. I’ve NEVER had to do that with any game that i’ve played. I still cringe when I hear the horrid wild pokemon battle theme. The only two tracks that I like in this game are Marnie’s battle theme and Bede’s battle theme.

I found the eternatus themes to be just a hodgepodge of noise. It got worse when the howling came in.
Am i wrong, or was the wild battle theme the same from gen 7?

Slumbering weald would have been top tier if it weren't for that horrible middle with the howling. I thought I entered another area when it played because it sounded so off.

The wild theme is grating and the trainer theme is unmemorable. Other than that though I've enjoyed most of the battle music.

Worst music out of the series.
The town themes are amazing as usual.
Character themes are great too, I love Marnie’s theme and Hop’s theme.
Other than that the music is mediocre. The wild and trainer battle themes are forgettable, champion battle theme is weak, legendary battle theme is messy, hall-of-fame and galar leitmotif has been reused too much. The Toby Fox theme is great, but so unfitting in a Pokemon game.
