I feel like part of the issue with diantha, is that the most interesting aspect of her character is something you literally cannot show in a game like pokemon.
Diantha was an actress who became a pokemon trainer on a lark and somehow became the best trainer in all of Kalos. That would be an interesting story to show, but you cannot do that in a game that you see her for all of a few seconds and is not even about her in the first place.

They could have been good, but I doubt they would be the goat. If the bland bog-standard Pokémon fare that was BW1 could be upgraded to be about on par with the previous two gens, it's possible. But still doubtful with nu-Freak at the helm that it could peak again.
