I hate Unova babs with a passion. Not only are they delusional with their shit tier story in BW, but they defend the bullshit that was B2W2. Especially when Gamefreak had people say "a third installment was never tradition" nonsense and these same retards ate it up. In my opinion B2W2 are indeed superior to BW just due to the fact that there is more fucking post game in it than BW paired with not having to deal with the shit tier fanfic story that was N and thank God for that, but holy shit is Gen 5 a lackluster region with a load of shit.

It's considered a bad third version because it dramatically altered the plot and characters. Changing small things around or outright expanding on stuff or even adding new stuff entirely is fine, don't retcon out good stuff and replace it with shittier stuff.

For example, Lusamine was one of the best characters in SM, she's absolute shit in USUM, and the changes they made directly affected Guzma's characterization as well since they cut the entire Parasite fight sequence which was a major part for Guzma's personal storyline. They also cut out Anabelle's entire relevance to the point where she has a literal single line of dialogue and doesn't even serve any function now, thus rendering her existence pointless.

USUM were probably the best 3rdversions content-wise.

Platinum really just added the Battle Frontier and 59 old Pokemon.

The issue with USUM, is that SM was a terrible game in the first place, so not even a 3rd version could save it.
DP even if flawed had the potential to be good.

USUM didnt even improve on base SM it just added more filler. Nothing they did had any meaningful impact because it was $5 dollar dlc sold for $40×2 versions. Emerald at least had more substance in its postgame, and a revamped story, whereas USUM's story is the same 2/3s of the time with a shallow nostalgia bait postgame addition. Platinum had a similar story situation to USUM but it also added lots of postgame content and fixed many of the issues that DP had such as slow battle speed, the lack of challange after E4, the type diversity issues etc.

It was Gamefreak trying to recreate the magic of GSC but without actually doing what made GSC great. They could've added way more fucking content than they did instead of just tossing in old mons in Unova, which was clearly fucking possible, added more mons rather than give forms to already meta relevant cancer with disgusting and boring designs. The only reason I tolerate it more than BW in general is because it had some semblance of post game content and I don't have to deal with N being a pretentious tart.

USUM had changes, but didn’t fix or improve anything. Platinum fixed/improved the regional dex, story, writing, characters, postgame, setting design, pacing, gym teams, and more. Emerald improved post game, number of double battles, story and structure, gym teams, and the like.

USUM may have added Mantine surf and a couple Ultra Beasts, but it didn’t fix a single problem from SM. It’s still incredibly linear, hand-holdy, railroad/hallway structure, painfully slow, lacking animations, too much dialogue/cutscenes, and actually made the story much worse. It’s the first third version to ever make anything about the game worse as a whole.

Platinum perfected the post game content formula. HGSS added to it. Instead of the seven facilities with some of them having some of dumbest gimmicks we've ever seen, we got 5 very well tuned establishments that could really stimulate the nogging along side the competitive scene at the time. There was also compatibility competitively between Plat and HGSS where you didn't have to shill for the next set of games if you didn't want to (refer to USUM, B2W2 and ORAS that clearly added stuff that made the previous games in the same gen obsolete in regards to competitive scene online)

So, comparing side by side, USUM seems to have the biggest changes.

I think it's because Platinum came out in 2008 and USUM in 2017, so people are biased about Platinum.

USUM is basically a smack in the face money grabbing piece of shit and perfectly shows the downfall of the series on a whole. On a side note: Gen 5 games were pretty disliked when they came out and they're now circlejerked, same thing will happen to Gen 7 when the kids that grew up with it grow up.

Postgame posts weren't even a thing until after ORAS. Hell, DP already set up the whole "first version doesn't have as much as the previous third version" deal so no one expected it to have Plat levels.

You mean a game that practically copy pasted the region of it's vastly inferior "prequel" game while only adding a few things like a few new Gym Leaders while removing some of the previous ones in the process instead of easily keeping them for that bonus content. Also making BW irrelevant by all means competitively because of the Therian Genies, the hideous Kyurem forms, and the MLPfagbait that is Keldeo's form. In addition to also trying to compensate for the lack of a proper Battle Facility by making Nostalgiabait the Tournament as an option that although I am thankful for, completely had mild to no difficulty. The game is a fucking joke and Gamefreak should've waited for Gen 6 to make it a proper sequel, just like how Gen 2 was a sequel to Gen 1.

I don't even understand why they made it, it's is legitimately fucking useless because the only change it has is its appearance. No wonder Game Freak has a problem with so many 3D models because they wasted their time making garbage like that an Unown.

Volcarona makes some sense because it's a Pokemon who was worshiped like the fucking sun, similar to how many Mesoamerican tribes worshipped the sun, but holy fuck does BW/BW2 just not even try

I have a theory that gen 5 pulled some gen 6 designs to reach 150 new Pokémon since they were not only being developed in conjunction but also came out so close to one another. Like the real obvious ones are
Gen 5 has a ton of minor legendaries including the musketeers while gen 6 has them conspicuously missing.
Gen 5 has a ton of great bug types including escavalier and by extension shelmet’s line. Gen 6 only has 1 line, and it’s the route 1 bug.

Yeah, more changes does not equal more content. Emerald and Platinum have more content. Pretty much the only thing USUM had was the ultra wormhole mini game and it was boring as hell. Oh, and also chansey leveling. That was about it.

Is that even bad though? I didn't impulse buy both versions at the start. I just bought moon and got ultra sun later. That's basically everything new right there. In a condensed third version you'd always get cheated out of exclusives from both games, like how you can't get Zangoose in emerald. Not to mention sometimes pokemon that appeared in both games just straight up don't show up like mareep in crystal, roselia, meditite, and surskit in emerald, and both stunky and glameow in platinum. Heck one of Platinum's big draws was that you could get the cross gens that weren't in DP yet Murkrow and Misdreavus are removed and resigned to being version exclusives for those two games. With ultra you could just get the other version that you didn't play with vanilla. The only thing missing would be one ultra beast at the end that they purposefully give you multiples of for trades.
