Gen 6 speaks for itself. It was really easy and horribly balance because megas stomp the game, and you get too many strong megas like Lucario, Kanto starter, Latios/as, and Hoenn starter for free.
Admittedly I did not get far in 7. I think 7 might be harder due to Necrozoma and the trials. But I think overworld encounters are better than random ones. With overworld you can actually see the pokemon interact in the environment and you can just directly get them instead of fucking around with RNG, with enough polish it can be really great.
LGPE was an abortion tier game and I have zero sympathy for anyone who bought. SWSH? Maybe I can understand, because as I said overworld encounters are nice, it's a new region, and I like gen 8's pokemon more than 6 and 7. But LGPE is literally irredeemable trash. It's Kanto AGAIN but with so much removed that it's worthless with the one nice thing it had being ridable pokemon.
