I also like the scrolling HP from Mother 2 and 3, I am having problems naming other RPGs that do something similar; the fact that you don't die instantly allows for some cool saves
Fun fact: I was stupid enough as a kid to fall for bootleg G4 games, i.e. Telefang. I don't really remember much about them anymore, though.
And of course there's also Final Fantasy, but I haven't played any in a longer while. Fuck, I wish I still had 9, I never finished it (I was a dumb kid stuck on some boss iirc)
