Best Wishes heavily implies he and Pikachu had been together a whole year, and Ash had 2 time passage references back in Kanto (when reaching Pokemon Tech and when revisiting Veridian City). Outside of that it's been a vague 10 year blob. Made even more confusing because Ash was 10 years, 10 months, and 10 days old when he started his journey (so he'd be 11 by Pokemon Tech).

since the Simpsons have hardly any continuity the time the Simpsons takes place is never really relevant.

The issue comes about in the backstories though because that does plant the show in a set time period, like Grandpa in WWII or Homer's childhood in the 70s.

I've never really understood why people are bothered by Ash's age. Its only brought up like once every 5 years during the narration, and it never has any effect on the plot. Even at his most childish, Ash looks and acts older than a 10 year old, and he's allowed to do whatever he wants in spite of his age. This series is literally about him having a job where he's treated like an equal to the adults

He beat the Kahunas who, unlike in the games, were stated go all out during their grand trials, Kukui/Royal Mask who was famous in Alola for his strength, and the legendary of Melemele and the leader of the Tapus. There's zero basis for comparison for how strong Kukui is next to literally any non-Alolan character besides Ash. Not to mention Ash barely had any competition from his rivals this time around, he was more experienced than all of them and it was just his local Pokemon having the real rivalries.

Maybe, but how are the likes of Gladion and Hau any different from Sawyer, a newbie that managed to make it to the top 4 and give Ash a run for his money? As for Kukui, how is that different from any other character that's only in one series. There's technically no comparison fpr how strong Alain is to other regions, so who's to say he's actually all that strong. The point is that Ash is pretty objectively the strongest trainer in Alola, which is actually a greater feat than any other league would have given as there would still be the Elite Four and Champion above him

Pretty much. Pokemon (and a lot of kodomo) don't follow real world time. It's how Ash can possibly spend "years" travelling and still not age. That's just how the world of this anime works, because, you know, it's a fucking cartoon. In what world is beating 4 Gyms (equivalent) and then a Champion winning a tournament? He didn't even face them one after another. None of the Leaders were competing with Ash to become Champion. It was a checklist that when completed allowed you to battle the one Champion, by himself, with no tournament setting.
I mean I still would consider Ash a de facto Pokemon Champion after going through Orange Islands, but it wasn't a tournament by any means.

This doesn't even make sense, it isn't currently 2019 in the Pokemon world because they don't follow the same calendar as the real world. You know, because it plainly and clearly isn't the real world and doesn't need to follow its rules? It's pretty obvious time doesn't work the same way in the anime's world as it does for us in real life considering Ash can go to all these different regions and still not age. His birth year hasn't been changing, it's just not as simple as "he was born in 1987 at the start of the series, but then in BW it was changed to where he was born in 2001", that's retarded logic. Time does not progress in the Pokemon world just like it does in the real world and there's no problem with that.
