For what little there is to do, you do not need even 400 Pokémon. ~150 would've sufficed in such a content void game.
It made sense to have more when they kept adding shit. Now that they keep rushing them out years before they're actually ready, there's nothing to use them in.
Not defending them but this logic just crossed my mind and it's inarguable. If they're going to keep making games that barely have more content than Gen 1 then you're going to get bored of the game before you get bored of an individual species of Pokémon and want to use something else so they might as well match Gen 1 every time now unless they want to stop being useless sacks of shit.
