>>41774865Gen 1 being a broken mess of coding is the only reason it was so strong.
>The Special statExistence of Special meant that Tauros had a respectable stat to spam Blizzard with.
>BlizzardIn Gen 1, Blizzard had 90 accuracy for some Godforsaken reason.
>Critical HitsIn Gen 1, critical hits were instead calculated using a Pokemon's Speed stat - the faster you were, the more often you'd land a critical hit. Tauros' base Speed of 110 gave it a 21.48% on every move it used. Also, Critical Hits dealt DOUBLE damage, something that remained true until Gen 6.
>Normal STABNormal was resisted by only one type (Rock), and nulled only by Ghost. Every Rock-type that existed at the time was weak to either Blizzard or Earthquake, both of which Tauros would almost always carry. The only Ghost-type was Gengar, which is Ghost/Poison and so weak to Earthquake.
>Hyper BeamIn Gen 1, a Pokemon wouldn't have to recharge if they landed a KO on either the target or their Substitute. Tauros has 100 base Attack, gets STAB on this 150 BP move, and his Speed gives it a 21.48% chance to critically hit.
>Body SlamTauros gets STAB on an 80 BP move that has a 30% chance to Paralyze anything that's not Normal or Ghost-type. In Gen 1, Paralysis cuts Speed by 75%, on top of giving a 1/4 chance to not be able to move at all.
