You could make the same argument with Magic Coat and Magic Room, but those existed before Fairy type was a thing. Magic Powder was introduced this gen though, so it basically confirms that "magic" is a Psychic type thing.

fact: steel is not a particularly common offensive type. people dont run steel coverage. the only mons attacking with steel are the stab ones, of which the most common ones are more defensively oriented

That's literally Psychic type in a nutshell though. Instead of just mind-based powers, it's used a catch-all for any sort of mystical or paranormal ability that doesn't fit into any other type.

Typically a non-legendary signature move gets distributed to other pokemon after the game it was introduced in. Though yeah delphox got its uniqueness shafted in gen 8.
