I personally have fallen in love with Pokémon Sword and Shield and am debating it to be the best gen. thus far. I’ve played since the originals (skipped X/Y and Sun/Moon) and all of my complaints regarding the game are preference, not actual technical things that are fundamentally “wrong” with it.

Am... am I becoming a Triple-A supporter? Am I, and people like me, basically playing the Nintendo Call of Duty?

Am I right, wrong, or meh? Discussion thread.

To me it's gen 3.
It's the only generation that felt like an actual new generation.

Gen 2 was Kanto extended map
Gen 4 Cheap small dex mixed with previous gens
Gen 5 Kanto rehash
Gen 6 Kanto and small dex
Gen 7 Kanto and even smaller dex
Gen 8 Kanto and small dex again

OP here: I generally like it because of its beautiful graphics, smooth gameplay, the fun and diverse DEX, the general (and admittedly minimal) customization available, and the fact that it lives in the digital-update era of gaming. It’s got Pokémon from near-every gen. in an attempt to appeal to all the “you took my pokeemans away” kids and still kept it to what, 400? Easy.

To anyone saying that the DEX is smaller, the amount of Pokémon doesn’t bother me. Really. I want the Pokémon that are present to be fun and balanced (which GF will never perfect, so it’s whatever in that dept.)

Also, Gen3 reveling is the equivalent of Gen1 reveling. I love me some FRLG, but you can only Nuzlocke so many times before you want to play something else.

What is it that makes it a BAD game? Why wouldn’t it be the best, save the nostalgia of past-games?

>Buggy game bricking consoles
>Buggy game deleting saves
>Buggy game corrupts the data of all games on the SD card
>Buggy game can crash other devices in the wireless network
>20$ more for much less and messier overall content

Actually good reply. And I don’t agree with the hate of everything you’re saying (I’m not looking for lore, here. I don’t care if some of the towns are worthless end-game, but again that’s just me)

And a lot of that is just Silly. The routes are hallways? I’m not trying to do puzzles and sh*t. I’m here to catch and battle Pokémon. You want complex mapping, go play TLoZ. No secrets, no exploration? Who cares? Is... is that really what people play Pokémon for?

Not even being sarcastic. Is that really what people expect out of Pokémon games?

As for glitchiness, I haven’t experienced any of it, so... sorry that happened to you, man.

More people than you think, considering the first 5 gens (and kinda 6) had actual dungeons. 7 had less and 8 has none. Exploration is kind of a defining feature of the series. Remove that, and what do you have? Nothing but hallways.

you can do that in every pokemon game…
if you can't explore a good region and/or have a bad plot, you can easily play an older game, especially if you consider gen 8 has less content, implying that older gens have something more than newer games

Yes, actually, I can only speak for myself but the idea of exploring this fantasy world and learning about these creatures is what got me into Pokemon and other monster series, it's why Pikmin is my favorite series, If it's just filling out a shopping list of creatures then there's no fun in it. saying "go play something else" doesn't apply when those same exact notes hit in Pokemon before.
