>honestly 1 if it weren't for nostalgia factor. How many times you think genwunners reminisce about Koga? Misty would be the same way if it weren't for the anime.

Some gens more than others. Gen4 is 50%ish, while I can't name a single gen6 beside Korrina.

I never played B2/W2 but didn't the leaders in that more or less get skits through some means? Probably would have helped flesh them out some I imagine.

Mostly forgettable due to heavy shift in making the evil team scandal more important and the gyms an afterthought

They had more of a presence and helped you take on Team Plasma. Some of the gyms were also stylized to the point where the gym theme changes based on how far you are into the gym (Roxie and Elesa). I think the only gym leader that was boring was Marlon.

I actually really liked the main villain being a gym leader, manages to tie the rocket plot and the gym leader challenge together nicely. Also helped that your rival in Gen 1 takes his spot in Gen 2 as a nice surprise.

I think the trial captains were more memorable. The side quests gave some of them more life. I wish they showed more of the struggle that the Kahunas went through to defend against the Ultra Beasts.
