Animation was pretty bad, I remember it standing out so much that my sister and I needed to pause it and laugh for a solid 10 minutes at the pokemon tower/marowak stuff.

Red has no character depth, he's just his blank slate self with a generic determined shonen MC personality shoved into his template. Green/Blue is a tad better. But besides them there's no time to time to expose anyone else.
Charizard shilling is shoved down audience's throat, being the only Pokémon that matters in Red's battles and making it his "bond partner" bullshit
Battles are nicely animated but have no strategic thought behind, are just fast paced contest of who hits harder first. Even the Ashnime did better
Blatant Gen 6 advertisement closing the series with M-Charizard-X at the eve of XY's launch

Too short, animation was incosistent with episode 2 being a bad joke, at the end of the day it boils down to BUY POKEMON XY GUYS.
It was cool concept, but poorly executed and the intention was just to make it an overly complex advertisement for next games.
