They got rid of location-based evolutions since it would require them to add certain themed areas to every future game, plus animated mossy and icy boulders, which they don’t want to fucking do anymore. That I get. But Espeon, Umbreon, and Sylveon will likewise never evolve via Sun, Moon, and Shiny Stones, respectively, because those evos require no extra graphical work or resources on GF’s part

I understand the convenience of stones (especially since I once needed to trade an Eevee to Black to evolve it into a Glaceon just because they stupidly put the Ice Rock in a post-game area in B2W2), but I still prefer environmental evolutions just because Eevee is actually adapting to the environment it happens to be in for those. In some ways, this was a disappointment for me in the world of Eeveelution developments which was only surpassed by there being no new Eeveelution this gen.

At the very least, this has forced GF to step into the realm of retconning whatever they may feel to be a past mistake.

If anything, having the other Eevees evolve via stone is *more* in-line with Eevee’s long-established lore anyway. Many dex entries specifically state that it is radiation from various elemental stones that trigger its unstable genetic code to mutate. No entries ever mention adapting to its environment in other ways or by other triggers.

nerd. gamefreak only changed this so they don't have to make a weird area with a mossy/icy rock in the middle of it. it doesn't change the "casualness" of the series

I'm playing BlazeBlack 2 right now and it's cool that I can get Glaceon pretty easily because some NPC gives you a Frozen Ore item but it isn't an Ice Stone and you just hand it to Eevee.

Im not gonna deny that but just making it another rock is even more boring since it just loses any sort of uniqueness to it. Like at that point only three eevees dont even use the rock by that point. Its not the best to play sure but Id say make it more improved as a gimmic, not just scrap it and make a much more generic and boring thing that has far less personality to it. What made it kind of neat was it sorta fed into that stuff about how eevee evolved to fit its environment and stuff but like now eevee only evolves through either nurturing it in certain ways or just using a stone on it. Its boring thematically.

I'd just like to say that this old evolution method really had the potential to limit region design, because everywhere needs to have that moss rock or ice rock or whatever. Unfortunately I say it has the potential to do this because these could've fit right into Galar's established locations anyways, so whatever
