Lets say there is 10 trainers per route, with 3 pokemon each on average (this is an overestimate, but we will stick with it for sake of argument). There are 10 routes in Galar, so that's 100 trainers on all routes, and lets add another 50 for towns, gyms, wild area, etc... so we have 150 trainers in the game, with 450 pokemon total. If we only give 1/3 of those Pokemon nicknames, which seems realistic for how often people would nickname their Pokemon (kids would nickname them frequently, while adults, workers and ace trainers probably wouldn't) you would only need to come up with 150 nicknames for the entire game, many of which can be simple such as Sobby for a Sobble. It would be completely feasible, if not easy for Gamefreak to do this, and it would add so much to worldbuilding and characters.

Because the main games have the goal of making people, which many are kids, remember the name of the new pokémon.
In ranked battles and tournaments the nicknames aren't displayed either, you can pretend they are nicknamed but the game just doesn't display it.

i thought that was what the anime was for, especially seeing as almost all the pokemon there just say their names instead of making animal noises.
