>>41839980>>41840769Before jumping into Open World, pokemon would benefit more from simply becoming less linear and providing options again. We don't need a game with huge expanses of rolling plains with a scattering of wild pokemon as you make your way to the next town.
What we need is a game where you actually have options for how you want to go to the next town. Do you want to head down the route that crosses back and forth over a river? Do you want to head through this cave? Do you want to bypass the cave and go over the mountain instead? Do you want to go around the other way and go through a forest route?
All of that can be achieved with existing pokemon route design, and would be far less work compared to creating a true open world. It would also be better for gameplay, as they would still be able to strategically position enemy trainers, rather than plopping them down in random places in a field.
