Digimon has pretty meh designs though. Pokemon's main appeal really stems from the fact it's designs are simpler and easier to relate to- most have a basis in the real world. That's why all the popular Pokemon tend to be the ones that are real animals or creatures.

Yeah, the 1st and 2nd stage designs in Digimon are pretty good. But they start getting buttfuck retarded once they hit 3rd and 4th stages. Pokemon tend to look good in all their stages.

Gen 1 is brought down by its glitches. Gen 2 has more definitive mechanics and is overall the most solid old-school pokemon experience. Gens 3-5 improved on a technical level, but typically had drawbacks in regards to heavy plot focus with lots of legendaries. Gen 6 was a step down, though is somewhat excused due to the jump to 3D from 2D, but otherwise the larger change is in design philosophy. There were hints of simplification and changing the games to be more linear even starting in Platinum, but Gen 6 and onwards is where they've really tried to streamline the games.

Gen 8 is disappointing, but nothing overly new.

If I wanted to play multiplayer, I'd use a battle sim. Gen 6 is objectively a step down. Quickest comparison is ORAS to HGSS or FRLG. Objectively the lowest effort remakes

It's not bad, just kinda boring. Instead of furthering a concept or adding something, it's just a larger version of the base evolution. Pokemon like Ponyta and Poliwhirl suffer the most since their evos are just them but angrier (though Poliwhirl got Politoed which helped)

Galarian Ponyta is worse than regular Ponyta cause at least regular Poynta doesn't have a horn and gains it when it evolves. G-Ponyta has the horn from the get-go, so it doesn't gain anything when it evolves.
