When deciding weird cases for a run with special rules, do you usually opt to have things harder or do you stick to rules even if they make things easier? With my Mono-Ice run of Shield, I got most of my team ready before the second gym. I'm wondering how I should handle Shellder/Cloyster though. With Eevee I evolved it ASAP since Glaceon learns level up moves pretty regularly and using Eevee for a long time wouldn't feel right to the mono-ice setup. But with Shellder, if I don't evolve him, he's not ice type and will make stuff like Kabu way easier. But if I do evolve him all of Cloyster's moves are available immediately due to how move relearning is this gen. I already got the Water Stone, so I can evolve him whenever at this point. Not sure what path to take with the shell boy, but I really wanna use him since I've never really tried out Skill Link.

I do think that if we were to Nuzlocke it again, we'd have different rules to make it a bit more of a challenge and to better incorporate unique elements of the game into the rule set, like raid battles. Still, I kind of value this run as an experiment. We knew what was coming in White and White 2 and were able to prepare, and we still had trouble. Here, we're playing by the same rules, with much less knowledge about what's coming, and it's just objectively MUCH easier. Thanks to Stone Spark and his Magnet Pull ability, I was able to get some cool Steel-type catches, but then he got thrashed by a wild Tentacool we could not escape. Vorigan the Crobat fell to a trianer's Muk due to a defense drop from Crunch. That Muk must have had loaded dice because it got a defense drop on every one of my pokemon it used Crunch on. Horde grinding is your best friend, saves SO much time if you have a spread move and can net you some awesome catches. I would suggest catching a slave Surskit on route 102 or hacking in lots of honey (for grinding purposes only, ofc). You can get Bulldoze in Mauville to help a bit.
Also the levelup sets in this game are wild, I had shit like Giga Drain Grovyle by 21, Moonblast Clefairy at 24, etc. Was able to evolve her and Onix in Slateport, too.. Just be wary, things get very powerful very fast.

>>41911306 > Wait.. did you finish the vanilla games and just decided to continue it with romhacks? Yes pretty much, will try to do all the dray hacks, they are my favorites
>What are your plans? How many more games? When you gonna consider it finished? Honestly, I don't know lol. I think I'll consider it finished when I'm unable to make a team of at least 5 until the end or when is no longer fun/too difficult, up next ill do rising ruby and then the SM dray hack. Could also try Eternal X / Wilting Y, which are in a similar vein as Dray hacks in terms of buffs and changes. They're really fun, but pretty hard.. as

>>41912144 It's pretty fun! Fairly challenging, since it's a Drayano hack. Tons of mon variety (literally every route has at least 10 possible encounters, and they don't often repeat across routes) and some great buffs to weaker mons to make them more viable.

Hey /nzg/. Haven't touched Pokemon in like a week nor been in threads, but back at it again since I'm bored of Hearthstone again.
Continuing my Element-Roulette Nuzlocke and go through from the last gym to the Ice gym.
Scored a Toxel on route7 after a dozen fights with that dumb dark cat that dashes into me like it has a suicide wish.
Rolled flying/ice/grass/poison/normal for route8 and could not find ANY until I reached the second half and just killed the fucking ice/bug forgetting ice was an option for me. Fucking sucked. Also Evens/Odds (the driflim) died to a random encounter. So that sucked.
I dicked around in town discovering the dumbest mystery investigation of all time, and went to the gym.
Tragically Roulette my starter and Pachinko the spritzee both died to some lucky crits on a trainer cloyster.
And last but not least MY BOY BACCARAT THE TANK. Nearly solo'd the entire gym leader with a stockpile/rest/snore strategy. Wouldn't dynamax cause I wasn't sure if you can use Rest to heal when dynamaxed. Dude tanked all 3 Laprax dynamax moves, two of which were crits! So yeah my other 3 pokemon owed their lives to my favorite Pokemon of this gen so far. RIP my squirrel Snorlax.

And after a 4hit streak on icicle spear, of course the grass/dragon dies in one turn.

Rest in peace, Banana. After a streak of catching a Weedle, then a Shitmonkey, seeing you pop out made me groan. >Oh great, another shitmon. You proved me so wrong, buddy. Yawn saved me so many times, through 7 gyms. Rage whittled down my captures, and then Roost and Dig and Screech carried me on the Rock Gym... you were the perfect companion for a Set mode run. You tanked a crit Outrage from Lysandre's Gyrados. You didn't deserve to die to a Petal Dance crit from a pathetic Vilecunt. Right after you died, on the same route, an Altaria appeared as my first encounter. I truly beleive it was you, like a celestial being reborn. I used my Masterball and named her Sundae. I'm pretty sure you were a guy as a Dunsparce but if you wanted to be reborn as a cute girl I support you. RIP Banana. >Crit Drill Peck ended this before it began Bramble vs Gengar
>Sleep Powder misses twice in a row, Gengar's Focus Blast hits twice in a row, second time being a crit that takes Bramble down to 31HP, and proves the computer is a cheating bastard >Gengar starts using Spite while Sleep Powder finally hits, letting me whittle down Gengar's HO with Leaf Blade Lalma vs Houndoom
>Karen switches into Houndoom >I switch in Lalma, she takes a Flamethrower >Respond with Earthquake, while Houndoom uses Dark Pulse >Lalma lives with 3HP, and Earthquake kills Bramble and Lerfil vs Gengar, part two
>Leaf Blade take Gengar down to half >I predict Destiny Bond bullcrap and use Sleep Powder >I am correct, Sleep Powder misses any way >Destiny Bond and Sleep Powder are used again, but Powder hits this time >Take a chance and switch to Lerfil >Gengar still sleeping >Lerfil outspeeds and finishes off Karen and her team That was freaking tense, but now only Lance remains.

>Ryzer takes a Waterfall and responds with Strength, only taking off a quarter >Switch to Palko, who sets up Reflect, a good move as Ice Fang only deals about 30 damage to Palko >A Body Slam and three Petal Dances later, Gyarados is felled Lalma (Golem) vs Charizard
>Rock Throw does its job again, falling Charizard in one hit Brilg (Mamowswine) vs all three of Lance's Dragonite's
(Just a quick note here, this is what I put Brilg on my team for, this very moment, and let me tell you, I couldn't be any prouder of my boy Brilg)
>The first Dragonite gets Blizzard off, but Brilg is still doing fine and uses Ice Shard, leaving it with ONE HP Lance heals, doesn't matter, Ice Shard then chooses to crit, saving me one PP, not that it matters
>Second Dragonite, level 50, is up next Brilg Ice Shards again
>"Dragonite used Fire Blast!" >Oh crap >"But it missed!" >I'll chose to take this as the game apologising to me for those two Focus Blasts earlier >Third and final Dragonite appears >Ice Shard and Dragon Rush trade, leaving Brilg with 23 or so HP >Ice Shard's higher priority finishes off Dragonite Lalma vs Aerodactyl
>Aerodactyl uses Crunch, Lalma uses Rock Throw >Both down to half >Not taking a chance, heal Lalma >Crunch before next Rock Throw lowers defence, next one could kill >Now or never >Rock Throw lands, ending the fight and securing my place as Champion of Johto Well, now i've only got eight more Gyms and Red to go now, but I would think it's decently smooth sailing from here.
