The short answer is no. The long answer is its the most barebones pokémon game in years. A step forward in online and QoL, but a step back in literally every other venue. Horribly paced and executed story, literally no dungeons to explore, absolutely tiny region, and even without using dynamax yourself, it's a cakewalk. Just wait for the updated version

If you’re desperate then get a used copy. Not at all worth paying full price for imo, it has less content than any of the 3DS games by far yet costs 50% more, and the quality of the game ranges from good to fucking awful in areas.

Can I recommend you Splatoon 2 instead? The online community is still pretty strong nowadays. The gameplay is pretty fun and easy to get used to, there's a lot of customization thanks to all the gear there is, and the story is somewhat charming. I recommend adding the Octo Expansion, since it has more lore as well, and a set of harder challenges that are all pretty fun.

If you have an online service and an interest in online battling, this game will provide as much fulfillment as the other Pokemon games had when they had their active playerbase and services. This is a similar sentiment if you have a close group of friends who you can battle and trade with.
If you want to just play through the game as an experience, previous Pokemon games will provide you with more ways to play on your own and a more polished experience. If you’ve already played the previous Pokemon games and are still looking for a unique solo experience in a video game, you would be better off playing a different game altogether. Do not get a Switch for this game unless you know you will go hardcore into competitive battling. If not, buy a Switch for its other games.

I say no. You'd be better off spending your money on another game. There's a good number of other Switch games that are much better than Sword/Shield and have way more content for the same price, like Smash Ultimate, Breath of the Wild, and Dragon Quest XIS.
