Interesting concept especially if the game scales with you, but Gamefreak would totally fuck that up.

I would kinda love a pokemon game where the gyms and the league aren't the focus, but instead just a side quest that you can do if you want to.

Fuck it, I’m posting here. This is the game plan TPC has for this generation of Pokémon. I don’t actually know what’s going on with Creatures and Gamefreak but my boss and other managers seem worried. Details usually change as development occurs, but the games that will be made and their general outlines were decided back in 2017. Who knows what will happen to them now though.

Giga Sword and Giga Shield are coming next year. They’re typical third versions but split in two like USUM. They’re planning on having all the missing Gen 5 and onwards Pokémon added into these games, plus a bunch of new Gigantamaxes. The raid system will be redone to include them but mechanically there’s no plans to alter how they function otherwise. There’s a few new legendary Pokémon in the works too and some new areas but nothing drastic. Plans for new characters and story changes but those are still being worked on. $60 again.

2021 sees Sinnoh remakes with Eternal Diamond and Infinite Pearl (titles not final). The main draw of these games is that they will have all of the Gens 1-4 Pokémon in them, so all Pokémon will be available this Gen but not without owning multiple titles and having a Home subscription. Again, more Gigantamaxes and some new Pokémon (mostly legendaries). These haven’t entered full development yet so we’ll see what gets cut, but I doubt stuff like the Battle Frontier is getting in.

After that is new Let’s Go games, currently they have Togepi and Marill pinned as the mascots but they’re not in full development yet either so no merch is yet planned for them, so they could change. Small amount of new Pokémon are planned for this too. These and DP remakes are in preproduction by the team that made Little Town Hero right now, but like I said they haven’t entered full development yet. Once Giga Sword and Giga Shield are done some of its team will assist in developing these while the bulk of that team begins preproduction on Gen 9.

The closest thing is Alola's Trials, and someone had to fight the rest of the team just to get that in. So, no, they don't.

2020 is getting a Christmas release with Pikachu Let's Go Gold and Pikachu Let's Go Silver. TPCI has a brutal faith in its mascot and thinks it can take a more protagonist role, so it's headlining both versions and actually getting involved in the game's plot. Your partner Pikachu was adopted by Lugia/Ho-Oh and you're basically its babysitter. Because it was raised by one of the tower birds and holds a Silver/Rainbow Wing, it gained some of their power and can use the special move Windy Wazoo or Flamey Fwoosh in addition to the partner moves from the first Let's Go. Dex distribution remains the same as GS; as there's no Kanto, former Kanto exclusives have been relocated to Johto routes. Ethan and Lyra are Oak's assistants and work with Mr. Pokemon, while Silver is now the Blackthorn leader along with a bunch of former Rocket grunts; Clair moved up to the E4 along with Janine (Koga is said to have gone back to the gym as he's starting to feel his age). Bugsy's new design is somehow even girlier, his shorts are so short that at times they look like a miniskirt, this is actually worked into trainer gossip. Pryce now uses a wheelchair like the manga version, he seems more upbeat than before though. E4 order is Janine - Bruno - Will - Clair, with Karen as champion (she finally has a T-tar). Mt. Silver has a new access though the Magnet Train.

2021 has Sword MAX and Shield MAX. Same old song except Zacian and Zamazenta get corrupted by Eternatus while fighting it, by channeling that energy into a G-Max form you stabilize them, but they can no longer assume their crowned forms, instead gaining a monstrous growth that acts as their sword/shield. Both gain Poison as a secondary type, their stats are lower than the crowned forms but the g-max moves make up for it.

2022 is the release of Gen 9.

I'm honestly expecting a cheap port like ORAS, with the story from Diamond and Pearl and a side quest at the end to tell Giratina's story. Routes will be shortened, rivals will be more friendly, and the game will hold your hand more, but it'll still be better than SwSh
