>>41870532>>41871227>>41871723OHKO moves aren’t banned because they are “broken” strategies.
They are banned because they are “uncompetitive”.
Moody, Evasion, Swagger, and OHKO moves all completely rely on fishing for good RNG to use and beat. Forcing the game to be a slot machine rather than a strategy game.
Forcing games to entirely be based around whether you get good dice rolls is not something every single player wants in a game.
>B-but what about Stone Miss, Scald, and Crits?Moves that naturally miss (no evasion boosts or accuracy debuffs) and Scald are fine since their impact to who wins a match is minimal. Where that one miss or burn that costs you the game could have been avoided if you made different plays to not get into such a situation. This is even more true for moves that can miss like Stone Edge since its a compromise you are giving to yourself.
As for crits, like wise, they don’t determine entire games and you can avoid scenarios where a crit can win or lose you a game. And plus, you would need to ban every single attacking move in the game besides Auto-crit moves or fixed Pokemon moves like Seismic Toss.
>B-but muh paperbag guy and muh based flat black guyRegardless of what some dumb anime fighting game community find acceptable is irrelevant to what is competitive and uncompetitive play in a completely different series.
And on top of that, Faust and G&W’s RNG would fall under the same category of “The RNG they have isn’t enough to make the game a slot machine”.
>>41873577Yes, you are “correct”, in a way.
Crits exist.
Chances to paralyze exists.
Flinch chances exist.
Although luck isn’t the biggest part of battling, it’s still a reasonable chunk of it.
And you know what, with moderation, luck is fine in a competitive setting.
Key word being “moderation”, including in games where luck is a much bigger factor than in Pokemon even.
If luck impedes on the skills that people want out of the game, then reduce it.
