Go look up his battle again. His ace is Scizor, he always saves it for last. I didn't bother checking the other Kalos members but I'm certain you got those wrong for similar reasons too

Masters is not representative of aces. Some of the story is that the trainers raise a new mon for the tourney (like Calem or Hilbert), and then you have trainers like Brock with multiple Pokemon

There is absolutely no good reason that Allister and Melony's aces aren't Runerigus and Frosmoth respectively.
I know they don't have gigantamax forms, but that could have been easily remmidied by just giving them gigantamax forms.
It's not like a Pokemon's place in the meta hasn't been affected by the gym leader it's used by before. (Pic related)

I'm not sure what your point is. Certain trainers in masters use their ace, others do not. Winona uses pelipper instead of altaria, ramos uses weepinbel instead of gogoat, surge uses voltorb instead of raichu, maylene uses meditite instead of lucario.

Right, but it was just a single example and the point still stands that a trainer sending out a pokemon last is not a REQUIREMENT for being an ace like the other person is insinuating. I've had battles where cynthia didn't send garchomp last, steven didn't send metagross last, blue didn't sent his starter last, etc.

In summary, it depends on the AI, especially for early game; it's very loose. But for important trainers or late game they get more smarter (generally anyway) and change their tactics. I know that romhacks raise the AI a lot more to the point that they switch actively in battle.

i know it's not like it would hold its own very well, but it's weird to me that Olivia's ace wasn't Carbink when her whole thing is being into jewelry. Similar vibes with Faba being a psychic type scientist not having Reuniclus when it just seems like the obvious thematic choice.

Unless you're being stupid and counting new forms of old pokemon but that's idiot logic because there was no Fire/Ghost Marrowak, or gigantamax this/that/theother in gen 1.
