Early Pokémon always deserves credit for making Red's starter be Bulbasaur as close to canon as possible. All of the artwork for Red/Green depicts Red with the Bulbasaur line and Blue with the Charizard line, and the manga only helped in that perception.

Its the only original manga thats still on-going, and it got approval from Satoshi Tajiri as being the closest to his original vision of the series. I'd say that classifies it as the main Pokémon manga

But fine, for the sake of argument, let's say the gag manga and Special should equally be considered "the main manga." The gag manga doesn't need to be brought up in this conversation as it is obvious which manga OP is referring to, and the gag manga doesn't reflect the early world of Pokémon due to it being made for gags

Charizard was used a lot in XY, but he really wasn't used that much in SuMo. Yes, Kiawe had one, but he was primarily just a taxi and rarely actually thought

And the Go Charmander thing is just a rumor, and a dubious one at that considering how rarely Ash's Oakmons are used and the fact that Go already has a fire mon with Scorbunny

Yeah, but him being a taxi and a side mon for one of the MCs really isn't that big of a deal in my eyes. Basically, I never felt like Charizard's existence in SuMo was detrimental to other Pokémon in the series while I definitely felt that way about Charizard in other regions of the anime. I'd rather have Taxi Charizard than him being a central figure again (especially when the Charizard isn't at least Ash's)
