The project was intended to create a creature that could fight the Ultra Beasts by changing its type at will, and was codenamed "Type: Full." When the Pokemon turned out to not be capable of what they wanted, as well as impossible to control, it was called "Type: Null," both as an insult and to signify its failure. You would know this if you actually played the games, but nobody on this board does.

Yes, you find that in the lab computers in Aether Paradise, along with Faba's libertarian self-help blog. But what does typing have to do with killing Ultra Beasts?
Multi-attack should do more damage to targets with Atk/SpA boosts, to counter Beast Boost.

Silvally sucks. The biggest problem that this thing have is that it's trying to be a incomplete Arceus. They gave it a terrible movepool. It's could have been a physical attacker, mixed attacker, special attacker, anything, but they fuck it up forcing it to be a physical attacker with no recovery. If it had recover, more special attack moves, calm mind, it could have been good because you couldn't tell what the player could be using. Arceus is good for this reason. They fuck this thing over.

The more I think about it, the more I think we should've gotten a new type like "Abomination" (but with a better name) to be used for Type: Null, the Ultra Beasts, Necrozma, Mimikyu, Eternatus, the Galarian fossils, and some older Pokemon. Basically chimeric aberrations and things that literally don't belong in the world. Has more wiggle room than the often-proposed "Cosmic" type and as seen with Fairy and Dragon GF likes that ambiguity.

Doesn't quite apply to Mimikyu and Galar's failed attempts to play God, but they already have two fitting types.

What's weird is that they actually added a Typeless battle condition at the same time but it's exclusively used when a pure Fire uses Burn Up. It should've been used for Type: Null and maybe the Ultra Beasts to emphasize how different they are from regular Pokemon. Give them abilities that give them unique resistances/weaknesses e.g. Kartana would be 4x weak to both Fire and Water.

In some cases normal can be the absence of a type as well. Look at porygon, arceus, kecleon, or castform. Or even the move tri attack. It's a very rare exception, but an exception nonetheless.

Maybe an "Abnormal" type.
Instead of having fixed strengths and weaknesses, it depends on the Pokemon in question so it can be truly weird and you need to figure out what their deal is through trial and error.
It doesn't really make a whole lot of sense for Pokemon that evolved on another planet or even dimension to still fall into the rigid type system of Earth Pokemon.
