What's the evolutionary function of Foongus? Disguise itself as a pokeball so it can be found by trainers and then beaten up by tamed Pokemon?

Considering only you, the protagonist, the point it for you to pick it up and want to add it to your team. In a way, I think it’s parasitic. Personally, I think Galarian Stunfisk makes way more sense in terms of design. Poll the class: does Galarian Stunfisk eat humans? What else is picking up a poke ball?

Pokemon that get captured by trainers have a much larger chance of making hundreds of babies with a Ditto because the trainer wants a shiny. Since this level of reproduction far exceeds what a Pokemon could expect in the wild, these are the most 'successful' Pokemon from an evolutionary standpoint. The problem, from the Pokemon's perspective, is that if it's one of the unremarkable offspring, it gets dumped back in the wild where it has to actually compete instead of being a sex machine. Thus, evolution encourages Pokemon to find ways to trick trainers to taking them back in and to the orgy pits.

Poison kills things.
Do the math. It lures in humans/Pokemon, kill them with poison, and feeds on their decomposing corpses.
