Got Sword for free and I gotta say this shit is alright I guess
All the issues are legit. Constant clipping, you can actually see your character automatically "walk" to snap to the next part of the grind a full second after you've let go of the stick, animations for the Pokemon are still highly move dependent, and it's clear they spent all their time on trainer animations instead.
Otherwise?
It's just kinda meh.
The routes so far are old school short with little bits here and there for variety but they're none too interesting.
If I'm being completely honest too, it just feels like a first entry in a series. Like I'm playing a modern day Red/Blue but it wasn't even really meeting the standards of the console it's set on.
At least with Red/Blue, the lack of polish and the flaws were mitigated by it being fresh and being able to compete with its peers on the same system in terms of capability.
There's nothing to explore beyond the Wild Areas and so far lacks proper dungeons like Red and Blue.
No Viridian Forest or Mt. Moon equivalents. No Rock Tunnels. Nothing to feel imposing.
The last gripe I have is that the Gym Challenges start getting interesting right as they end, as if it was cut short at the tutorial.
tl;dr Dynamax perfectly represents what Sword and Shield are. Low effort spectacle. It's alright but if it weren't Pokemon, it'd be forgotten already.
