People speculated that gothorita could theoretically be used to a similar capacity to gothitelle, but since there was never a metagame with both gothitelle banned and gothorita unbanned, there was never a reason to use gothorita over gothitelle. They were never willing to try out that possibility and see if gothorita really was as much of a threat in practice as some people speculated. Instead they just went straight to banning shadow tag, which also neutered wobbuffet, wynaut, gothorita, gothita, not just gothitelle. They should have just banned gothitelle and then suspected gothorita later on if necessary.
