Also, urine is high in urea, which is chemically similar to ammonia, which is toxic to fish. Plus scientists found that the fish isn't attracted to urine and would likely be unable to detect it in the murky waters of the amazon anyway. The myth is believed to come from people finding the candiru feeding on the gills of larger fish, then mistaking the symptoms of UTIs and kidney stones to be candiru that have swam up their pee pee holes thinking it was a fish's gills.
