Gen 8 tried to make itself a stand-alone without any references from past regions return to Galar, but the fact Type:Null is in the games kinda imply that it's in mega timeline like Gen 6 and Gen 7. In Gen 7 you also never see any mentions of megas until postgame so I think it's safe to guess that while Gen 8 don't make any mentions, megas still exist outside of Galar. So basically,
>Gen 1-5 is original timeline
>Gen 6-8 is new timeline with megas, z-moves and dynamax

Maybe I am just overestimating GF attention at continuity, but I think their idea is to create a main line without mega evolutions and a second line, composed by remakes + let's go games, where megas exist.

I mean, I just want a reason for why they kept megas in lgpe.

Exactly what killed a lot of people's hype for Kingdom Hearts III. I don't care how many compilations they release, you still have to play the about 5 games just to understand the plot.

The whole idea of alternate dimensions and time travel is such a garbage way to write whatever you want.

Actually, Gens 1 and 2 are in a separate universe and 3-5.

Kanto has the Sevii islands in Leaf Green and Fire Red. Those don't exist in the originals.

You could further this through game "mechanics" since R/G/B/Y and G/S can't transfer to the GBA games.

All that does is imply that Type:Null was created in this universe, so Ultra Beasts probably do too. Those don't rely on the discovery of either megas nor Z moves even. You could put UBs and Type Null into Gen 1 Kanto or Gen 3 RSE and they could exist just as well as Clefairy, Mewtwo, and Deoxys all did.

The fairy type is definitive proof its on the megashit timeline. I was going to say USUM too, but If you remove ORAS, then thee deliberate inclusion of classic Archie and Maxie is no longer a deliberate callback to separate main continuities and is just them appearing with their normal designs.

Gen 6 was in line with Gen 5. It wasn't until ORAS where you got the branching "Megas are a recent thing from Kalos" and "Megas have existed since the beginning". Speaking of which, ORAS was the time when Ohmori started directing and he's directed the first new gen games since, so the branching off really started with him.

The multiverse has been a hypothetical factor of the game's lore since Gen 1 due to the fact you literally cannot complete the Pokedex without syncing up to another universe's instance of (You), and outright confirmed as of Gen 7 with Ultra Space, the Alola with an opposite day/night cycle to (You)r's, and Rainbow Rocket.

The entire beef I have with 3 is how Sora violates these clearly established rules by being able to travel back in time (while displacing himself?) meaning that what occurred when they got btfo never happened, which makes no fucking sense because it was confirmed in Dream Drop Distance that Time is linear in KH. Like holy fuck.

And even if they DID know alternate universes exist, how the fuck does she know It would just happen to end up transported right next to an alternate earth with no megas? It's stupid, borderline fourth wall breaking exposition. She's just being used as a mouthpiece by the writers even though she really shouldn't know this shit or have a way to confirm it.
