Is it me or does SWSH's soundtrack sound very cheap?

I'm not a musician but a lot of the music sounds like it belongs on a handheld with bad speakers.

Actually kinda hurts to listen too.

I was AFK from my Switch during a bit while that one old lady professor theme kept going in one of the cutscenes.

I was driving my brother fucking mad and the loop is so barebones, you can almost taste it.

A lot of it really just sounds generic also. Very plain, nothing that extraordinary with very few themes standing out, which of course, are going to be the one(s) you'll be listening to the most.

I don't know how to describe it, but the ost is literally riddled with these awful beeps and boops it makes me wanna kill myself. Hop's 2nd battle theme is a prime example of what i'm talking about. Sounds like a cat dying.

Absolutely love the gym music, but it is very beepy and boopy otherwise. Music always sounds cheap when it's too tech-y.

Recently I discovered a little mobile title that was also composed by Go Ichinose, and it really made me appreciate the quality of many of the older Pokemon sountracks, and really made me realize how terrible SWSH's soundtrack is. Here's a playlist for it:

A lot of the songs in this shitty little game are basically outright top-tier Pokemon song quality, and I don't think anything in SWSH really even compares to the quality of these tracks. It's really blatant how little effort they put in when a shitty mobile game gets way better bangers than their main series.

I heard Masuda probably didn't even lay a finger on these most recent tracks. What's even more odd about it is that Toby Fox and the composer particularly devoted to Black and White soundtrack lent their work on that Little Town Hero (?) game.

Which makes me wonder, who in the fuck was on the realm then? I'm starting to believe it was a new crew of beginner composers alongside some help (minimal).

The only one that stands out is the Route 10 theme because it sounds like a beta Ultra Beast theme they used as a placeholder that never got replaced, not a fucking snowy area.
