They tell you now if your attacks are super effective or not, so you wouldn't need to do that much remembering.
Would also allow you to just give Pokemon who have levitate an immunity to ground type attacks, making room for other abilities.

well, some friends and I are working on a fangame. Probably wont get off the ground desu but we're talking about a type chart. We want to make it different from pokemon but it begs the question- why have a type chart in the first place

Megami Tensei games have been doing that for decades and it works fine, great even. Frankly I think it would do a lot to improve game balance by tuning monsters individually rather than relying on sweeping strengths/weaknesses based solely on 1-2 types.
