>>41940713There were a few improved things like a better pc storage system, quicker gameplay, natures are a reasonable way to differentiate Pokémon, and abilities add depth, but it just felt like it could’ve been better.
The most obvious change is the physical special split. It feels like the Pokémon were designed around the physical special split and it improves almost every Pokémon. The weather in the overworld is nice and adds depth to the world but there was no reason to get rid of the day night cycle. The sound font works well with RSE but completely butchers FRLG’s soundtrack. The graphics are ok but the sprite work isn’t as good as gen 2. The IV change was a debacle and continues to be awful. Why not just change the hidden power type at different levels you teach it at or have it change by letter in unown’s case? Really, Hidden Power’s typing is the only thing IVs are good for.
It really feels like Gen 4 was the bandage to patch up Gen 3’s problems but at the cost of being slower, which doesn’t bother me because Pokemon is a RPG which is a slower style of game.
