What we really need are fewer abilities with the exact same effect. ie. Libero v. Protean or Propeller Tail v. Stalwart. Just give less specific names to the ability.

"+50 new abilities each new gen!" is just a buzzword when 30 of them do what old abilities did, but with different names

Cotton Down actually pulled a reversal of expectations here. Everybody thought it was a third iteration of Gooey and Tangling Hair but it actually lowers everyone's speed in doubles.
It goes without saying this should more often be the case. Stalwart and Propeller Tail could just as easily be distinguished from each other as they could be unified.

Worse than this is Pokemon with similar typing and stat spreads getting the same abilities as each other.
Fighting type is particularly bad, it's like they just slap Guts, Steadfast and Iron Fist on everything and just call it a day. No wonder Conkeldurr outclasses just about every other pure fighting type in Galar

Dude this is so true. Its especially bad I think when abilities were introduced and they had to assign them to Pokemon who never had them ex post facto. Often there isn't even much of an attempt for them to make sense. Ground type? Give it Sand Veil. Don't matter if Geodude lives in the mountains.

Wonder Guard's problem is that it'd need a pokémon with a fuckload weaknesses to not be broken, but not have those weaknesses be common offensive typings to not be absolute shit. Shedinja is weak to rock, dark and fire, which really fucks it over, 1hp notwithstanding.

They wouldn't be useless if GameFreak would give them additional effects; Pick Up was 100% worthless outside of in-game, but it gained a neat new effect.

Early Bird's real use is with Rest, since you'll only sleep for 1 turn instead of 2. The issue is none of the Pokemon with Early Bird are tanky enough to use it.

Well, they didn't. And unless they do (which I doubt), those three might as well be replaced by better alternatives.

Exactly. If they don't need Rest, they don't need Early Bird either. And it's not like Rest is the most used option when it comes to healing.

All of the terrain and weather abilities should have better distribution, so we don't end up with fuckery like Raihan always using a non Dragon on his team because there are no Dragon auto weather setters.

Extend these effects to Doubles. Illuminate boosts accuracy of all on the field, Run Away allows allies to switch out too.

I really like Triage's concept. It's a great ability that could have some cool applications, but it'sstuck on a shitmon. Wasted potential.

Triage is the one that gives priority to healing moves. Works on stuff like Roost and Leech Life.

Yes but it also increases enemy accuracy, like Gravity but no grounding effect. I wouldn't increase it as much as Gravity though. More like Victory Star at 10 or 15%
