Yellow is nice, even if you don't want Pikachu, you can dump him in your PC for any of the other starters and still perform the Gengar glitch.

R/B is the "authentic" gen1 experience in all it's glory. Yellow is overall a bit nicer and has a cool gimmick. If you're a first timer play Red or Blue and leave Yellow for when you want to replay gen 1 in the future.

R/B is better, yellow both made some things easier (nerfed the rocket with raticate in mt moon for instance and handed you starters like candy) and harder (inflated sabrina and kogas lvl)

plus team rocket takes place of better grunt fights
