I think it's more that the newer gens just keep lowering the bar. People were mad that gen 6 sucked, until gen 7 happened, then gen 6 looked so much better by comparison. Same thing is happening with gen 7 and gen 8

You're much less critical on a second playthrough, since you know what to expect. You aren't getting high hopes and then having them shattered hours down the line.
These people aren't professional critics. They probably couldn't write a decent review even if they were paid for it. It's not that they're "pretending" to like it, they just got more enjoyment out of it the second time.
Also, USUM are the best games since B2W2 and I personally put them above gen 3 and 4. And that was on my first playthrough.

Bitch. I sat here defending gen 7 through a sea of people whining about cutscenes nonstop. No other region had as much emphasis on how Pokemon interact with the world they live in. It was the only game in the series to really sell the idea of a world where people and Pokemon live side by side.

Only idiots actually think the barren region that prided itself on Kanto pandering, down to scripting the very first wild encounter to always be a Pidgey, with the most bland soundtrack and the most forgettable characters, was better than Gen 7.

I legit liked S/M, US/UM were a bit meh though. I liked the surfing part but it was poorly used. The story from original S/M was good, but also really slow. I worry it will be the last game that had good bad guys with a good story. Also Team Skull was fun.

Since Gen 4 each game has been worse. so this is what you'd expect after Gen 4 where, until that point, each game had gotten better.

If every time you ordered soup one ingredient was removed even if you liked what it now was you would still eventually find yourself with a bowl of water realizing maybe that bowl of water with salt before it was better.

It doesn't mean either is good soup nor does it have anything to do with hating water.

Rinse and repeat every new generation. The fanbase is slowly lowering their check in quality without realising it. Buy the time gen 10 is released, Sword and Shield will be hailed as "good games" by the community because of how terrible the new games will be. Gamefreak knows this, and has continuously been putting less effort into the production stage, because they know that fans will eat that shit up with no hesitation.

This, I was genuinely happy when I was able to get my start in X in under 5 minutes. Same feeling I get during the bridge area between Vermilion and Fuchsia city where you can just battle a lot of trainers without story or other character interfering.

Analogy sucks. If they don't have the ingredients for the soup, the waiter would come back and ask if you'd want different soup or something else. Pokemon if you really want to get a damn soup analogy going, Pokemon is ramen. The core is always the same, you can change the broth and add spice for flavor, but you wish they had extra pork slices or an egg.

Or maybe 6th gen started a trend of each set of games being worse than the previous ones and we've been on a downwards trend for six sets of games now. SM were garbage, but compared to USUM, LGPE, and SS, they were a lot better by comparison. At most maybe you could argue that USUM is just SM with more content, but the fact you had to pay 40$ to slog through the same garbage again really took away the enjoyment.

I didn't even try with the first 4 Kalos gyms but still 1 or 2HKO everything. I got so bored I never bothered getting through the desert area and to this day haven't finished Y. The only things I miss from gen 6 was the PSS, and the minigames including Super Training
