2013 or whenever BW2 meta happened was peak Pokemon VGC, rest of Gen 5 was too. Online tournaments were more annoying because of scrubs hoping to cheese through with DrizzleSwim, but once you got past the 1700 mark or if you only played in real life events you got good competition

The only bad thing about that particular Magmar is that it was hacked, like illegal to have hacked, because XD can't generate the kinds of IVs he used during the tournament

People that get so worked up about Smogon and Showdown are the same type that seethes about romhacks and injectors. They can't fathom the concept of fans and communities doing their own unsanctioned thing. I'm sure the Dynamax ban gets them so angry because it's basically fans choosing to ignore a new heavily advertised feature because it sucks.

Former VGC player here, desu the main selling point is attending live tournaments, meeting people and going to Worlds. I'm not going to defend the format because yes most of the time it's unbalanced, specially during GS cup seasons (2016/19). Fuck Xerneas by the way.

Still I think doubles has more dimensions than singles, but the real superior format is DOU.

Smogon lost credibility when they went out of their way to ban everything BUT Lando Calrissian back in the day. Now they went and banned Dmax instead of coping with the fact their fictional meta will never be the "true" gameplay experience the developers envision and make excuses to defend their autism.

CHALK was in ORAS, not in XY, XY had Issue with M-Kanga first but in the end no one used it because everyone countered it hard and the meta became amazing.

Sadly there isn't really a central resource anymore since Nugget Bridge went away. Trainer Tower is a shoddy imitation run by people who wanted the glory of the old NB but have no idea how to "grow the game". Victory Road VGC is somewhat decent and has a few rental teams to het started with but at this point you'd get the same benefit from talking about VGC on here as you would anywhere else.
