>>41969252I disagree. I believe the first step in making the VGC game better is to get more people active and interested in VGC. The way to do this is creating more beginner-friendly platforms to learn the game from the ground up if you are new, or current state of the meta guides if you are familiar with general game but not the format. The more people active on the meta, the larger the playerbase becomes. This will cause more Premiere Challenge tournaments to open, and the more players there are playing means the more attention and money Nintendo/tPCi puts into it. Unlike Melee, because this IS the officially sanctioned format it would be easier for them to promote.
Communities for players to discuss, ask questions, and share their ideas is one of the keys to having an interactive meta and how currently played metagames stay strong, the strength of the community and playerbase is the strength of the format.
Now this is all with respect that you don't need to force anyone to make the Switxh if they dont want to. But as time has shown there are people who crave the higher concept gameplay that the metagame provides. It certainly isnt perfect but doubles pokemon delivers.
Now I don't hate Smogon despite my select few disagreements. I would be perfectly content with both existing side by side instead of competing for being the ruleset of the players.
I dont wish anyone to play a format they don't care for, but I would also like a centralized recognized ruleset to exist, and I think VGC is the reason.
What are your qualms with VGC? If you have issues with the cople of rulesets with legends then yes, I even agree that is pretty cruddy. I'm much more in favor of the regional dex or national dex metas where legends are banned. I cannot attest to the current Gmax bans, but as far as not banning typical pokemon, moves, etc like Smogon does is one reason why I actually prefer VGC.
