That's because TPC is fully invested in keeping it alive, especially after the utter fucking disaster that was Masters.
Combat probably won't ever improve unless they intend to turn GO into the new official game for VGC, but the rest has potential to gradually build up into something better than any GameFreak game.

Yes, higher level trainer = higher level wild pokemon. Also the pokemon's IVs for players lvl 30+ are the same, it's easy to get better pokemon if you play with friends

Go is so fucking boring. As soon as the new games came out I stopped caring immediately. Literally how can anyone say SWSH are empty and then praise Masters and Go? Go in particular is for older players who find the idea of buying the core games embarrassing for an adult but I don’t care about that stigma and have more than 30 minutes of my day I’m willing to dedicate to Pokémon time.

What's the difference between tapping a screen and touching a button, though?
For games like Pokemon that don't need constant awareness of your surroundings or precise inputs, they're pretty much the same as a mobile game. The "gameplay" can be reduced to touching buttons whenever you want to do something, without any risk of losing important progress.
