Solid difficulty (and yes, level curve), some improved graphics, logical additions from HGSS and other media, as well as all the important mechanics and quality of life changes you'd expect (not EVs, thankfully, while natures and abilities are optional). Stat and typing changes are optional (the faithful version removes them).
The downsides: Lack of changes to the Pokemon distribution, Pokemon being replaced by cross-generational evolutions due to lack of space, and the same for moves (a few of the scrapped moves deserved to be kept). Version 3.0 still hasn't been released due to all the hassle that comes with abilities and added moves, but the beta is perfectly playable. Version 2.2.0 lacks abilities, but that's the only difference that stands out.
