The head isn't as much of a problem as the body. The cube and even the stupid noice face could work on a different body. Hell, you could even color the black feathers blue and the design would be 200% better

See, that's my main problem with Eiscue. The color mapping is terrible, and it's hard for where my eyes are supposed to be looking at. Yes, I'm meant to look at its giant head, but once that's gone, what now?

Is there proof that James Turner actually designed it? Or is it ust suspicion? It isn't credited on Bulbapedia.

Turner didn't necessarily design Eiscue first-hand, but he was long-confirmed to be Sword/Shield's art director, meaning that all submitted Pokemon designs in this generation had to go through him and earn his stamp of approval. Turner may have approved a design like Eiscue where as Sugimori (or whoever else used served as art director) may have theoretically had higher standards and turned it down. It's in no way provable, but I don't think it's unreasonable to say that there's a correlation between a Western art director and a comparatively more Western-looking style for some of the new Pokemon of this generation.

I think if there weren't already four? other penguin pokemon this would be pretty beloved. Also I don't believe it is lazy as much as it is sort of offensively caricatured. Despite this I like the design very much. It uses its palette effectively, enjoys a legible concept, and is in fact pretty judiciously assembled. This is to say that, although I would have predicted fans hating this thing on its face, I couldn't deliver a more effective version of Eiscue than designed. I particularly like the shape of the beak and the suggested eyes.

Disgusting how surgeons are allowed do this to people still. It doesn't even resemble the head of a normal penguin, and I'm the one in the wrong for objecting to it? These penguins are mentally ill, and this isn't something that should be validated any longer. I honestly feel bad for the thing, it was mislead into having its icecube removed thinking it would bring it happiness but it only made it even more miserable.

The penguin suicide rate drops from around 40% to less than half that after icecube removal, just because there are minor fringe cases compared to the millions of penguins at large who benefit doesn't mean that it's a bad process.
