It probably won't outright die. Itll most likely end up like hello kitty where it still pushes merchandise, but its origins and purpose become obscure and forgotten. Everyone will know a pikachu when they see one, but they won't really know why

Like anything it'll lose popularity of the years with each new generation which means less sales, hell the last couple of gens might actually be good due to effort having to be put in to actually sell.

Pokémon is the biggest media franchise of all time but it can't always sustain itself. It has to break at some point.
