yes, if you want to be safe you should save 10-20 away and slowly approach to make sure you aren't off by one or two. As long as you are at least 3 time skips from the shiny seed away you are good

3 days before 25 is the 22nd, but yea.

if 25th is your shiny seed, then 24th, 23rd and 22nd will be fixed pokemon. It is better to save a bit earlier and make sure you didn't miscount though, just save on the 15th or so and check once if its actually on the 25th

Eh Id wait with the backup save, its a bit tricky because normal saving doesnt save your backup save, only trading online and teleporting does or something like that. So if you just normal save and then reset your backup save you might end up withba save way before your shiny seed

Also, taking advantage of backup saves should be in the OP since it's super useful.
Once you're in the situation where you're three slots away from the shiny:
>successfully trade or fly somewhere
>go to the front of your den and save again
>skip 3 and check the fourth
>if its something you want to host, save before the den, otherwise restart, skip 3 and check again
>start hosting at high speed
>once you're done hosting, restart and one the title crawl, hit Up+X+B
>Reload the backup which should take you to right after step 1
>Save which now overwrites you previous save before the pokemon you were hosting
