>>41990082I definitely like the Wild Area as a test run for base design of the game going forward, which is what I think it is. Their matchmaking shit definitely needs improvement, but that's probably a Nintendo online thing that they have to work around. The story was alright, and I definitely like how they did the gym challenge, and I would certainly like it if they retroactively applied it to other things. The character designs were all really unique, and I don't think there's any Gen VIII designs that I dislike, barring the fossil pokemon, and even then I appreciate the joke/reference they're making there.
That said I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE the entire dex not being in the game. That's so fucking stupid it's unreal, and I hope they go back on the decision for that to be the base design going forward, especially since they used the GO models, which means they have zero fucking excuse. In addition to that, the lack of a true Victory Road, or any out in the world puzzles make the game feel really easy. You could probably speed run the game in like 5hrs if you tried, so that needs work.
Ultimately it's still Pokemon, still the same formulae that's worked for them for the last 23 years, and I really am looking forward to either Gen IX or the DPP remakes being full on Wild Area style.
