Johto had a very nice character development. Sinnoh had some of the most memorable moments and objectively the best champion of the series. Unova's story was great and compensated the linearity of the region, as well as having a proper sequel. Alola's story and characters were some of its major focuses and the reason many people enjoyed SM more than Ultra SM

Animated sprites gave a lot of SOUL to the games, and even 3DS was nice because those were the first 3D battles we had on a portable console. Also, they didn't promise better and more quality animations by cutting half of the Pokedex
