>>42005108Let's have a history lesson here for context. It's literally only in gen 4 that we actually began to see Pokemon with spammable moves strong enough to OHKO neutral mons of average bulk. These had scarcely existed prior, outside of theorymonning. Head Smash Aggron, a 150BP STAB move from base 110 Atk with no boosting ability or weather, was the Dracovish of HGSS. If you wanted to KO a Pokemon, you HAD TO a) hit them super-effectively, b) wear them down or c) sweep them after setting up.
Cut to gen 5 and we suddenly had Sheer Force-boosted, weather-boosted Darmanitan's Flare Blitz; similarly Victini's 180BP sun-boosted STAB. Keldeo was nearly as strong on paper. This was a quantifiable increase in power of at least 50% over the previous generation, and the best wallbreakers were now capable of 2HKOing neutral walls and OHKOing some weaker resists.
Step forward to gens 6 and 7 and now Megas and Z-Moves can do the job without the restriction of a Choice item. You didn't need a dedicated wallbreaker; every "decent" offensive mon had a level of power beyond what was feasible a few years ago. People came to expect wallbreaking without any of the effort previously required, and rightly so.
So now here we are in gen 8, when a wallbreaker is expected to OHKO a neutral wall with no setup. Players have come to expect 3-4 times the damage output from offensive mons compared with past gens, and have forgotten the wallbreaking strategies and requirements that existed when that kind of on-demand power was unthinkable.
